To minimise the risk of COVID to patients, doctors, and staff, Hazelbrook General Practice (HGP) is requesting most appointments are via Telehealth.

HGP can see patients in person if there is a pressing clinical need. If you’re not sure, please book a Telehealth appointment first and discuss with your GP.

If you have even the slightest of respiratory or “flu-like” symptoms, or you have had possible COVID exposure, you must not come into HGP. You must get tested for COVID immediately.

Even after a negative COVID test, do not come in to HGP.  You must first consult a doctor via Telehealth appointment to plan further management.

To our Valued Hazelbrook GP Patients and Community

After much consideration Hazelbrook GP has made the difficult decision that,

as of 1/8/2022 only those patients holding a valid Concession card, Health Care Card or Pension card and children under 16 will be bulk billed.

All other patients will be billed according to the fee schedule set out below.

This decision has not been made lightly and comes about due to a number of factors beyond our control. At HGP we are committed to providing excellent quality clinical care that is thorough, evidence based and offers patients the time that they need with their GP. On top of this we provide afterhours care, home visits and many specialised areas of clinical practice. The current Medicare rebate does not cover the cost of providing a consultation and is in fact half the fee recommended by the Australian Medical Association (the formula used by the AMA to recommend consultation fees each year is designed to reflect the true cost pressures facing medical practices).

The consultation fee (of which your Medicare rebate forms just a part) covers not only the consultation and your doctors wage but the cost of employing staff, restocking supplies and running a business. Unfortunately, these costs have increased considerably over time without a concomitant increase in the rebate provided by the government. For this reason, it is simply not viable to continue to provide the quality of care that our patients and community have come to expect without charging a fee.

While this change is necessary, we understand that it may cause concern for some patients and, if this is the case, we encourage you to discuss your concerns with your GP
